What to Cover a Storage Shed With - Metal, Vinyl, Or Wood?

When you are building a storage shed, what do you want to cover it up with. You can choose between the 3 most common types of sidings; metal, vinyl, and wood. Each has it's own pros and cons.

Metal - If you choose to side your storage shed with metal it will be stronger then the other types. It is also pretty inexpensive to buy prefabricated metal siding and and is fire-proof. The only downside is that since it is so susceptible to rust, it isn't as durable as the other types and it may not last as long.

Vinyl - Vinyl is a great thing to side your shed with for a couple of reasons. One it already comes in a color so you won't have to paint it ever. Two it won't rot from water, or split, warp or crack. Also it is impervious to bugs, so they won't be able to burrow in. The downside is that it is more expensive, but it is very low maintenance, and it will last a long time.

Wood - Wood is by far the most commonly used siding, but that is also because it comes in so many different types. You can get regular old plywood and put it up for really cheap, and it will be durable and last. It just won't get awards for looking pretty. Or you could install some cedar shakes because they are much prettier, but more expensive. They are long lasting and rot resistant, but they are a pain to put up compared to plywood. You can find all types of wood siding to fit your budget and preferences, but make sure it is properly treated so that it won't rot and will last you a very long time.

Choosing what type of siding is totally a personal decision. It should be based on average weather, budget and personal preference.
